Wizkids Takes Flight With ‘Return Of The Dragons’ Pre-Painted Miniatures

When it comes to fantasy TTRPG, there are few creatures as iconic as the winged horrors (or heroes depending on where you land on the alignment spectrum) known as Dragons. Never off-trend, my pals at WizKids have a new revised set of dragon miniatures coming to the table and from everything I have seen it delights across the board.
Icons of the Realms: Return of the Dragons is a revisit to the original Tyranny of Dragons line of pre-painted miniatures. These minis have really evolved over the last ten years as WizKids has consistently been pushing the boundaries of their minis. Their dazzling color-ways and mastery of the semitransparent plastics really add an element of life to the gaming table.
The Return of the Dragons series updates all 44 miniatures from the original Tyranny of Dragons set that not only includes dragons, but gnomes, Red Wizards of Thay, elves, orcs, giants, and more. The sculpts of the dragons are really elevated and serve as epic additions to the table. With the new Dungeons & Dragons Monster Manual being so close to release, this set serves as a perfect accompaniment to some of the offerings from those pages.
The renders above look fantastic ,but my pals at WizKids sent me a few boxes to open and I can tell you first hand that the strides they have made as one of the leading miniature companies in the gaming space does not go unnoticed.
As we transition from the 5e to the new edition of D&D, these updates to the classic designs feel so timely and on trend. Not only does it feel like a bookend to the original set that got the ball rolling for 5e but also a showcase of possibilities that WizKids can deliver on in the future as newer D&D books hit the shelves.
As I sit inspecting the sculpts and the collection that sits before me, I am heartened by what the future will bring with the team over at WizKids at the helm and can’t wait to see what comes next.
