Exclusive – Sci-Fi And The Power Of Music In ‘Cyberpink’ Coming Soon To Kickstarter

In the 23rd century, amid rising prejudice against robots, a struggling all-girl band must unite humans and robots to stop a universe-threatening menace.

PA Lopez has provided Comicon with an exclusive look at Cyberpink, a high-octane sci-fi adventure that invokes Saturday morning cartoon nostalgia, bold inclusivity, and the power of music. From the creative mind of series creator/writer Lopez, and featuring artwork by Samuel Bermudez, the adventure series is packed with action, comedy, and heart, telling a powerful tale of unity, resilience, and the transformative nature of music.

When a girl vanishes into a swirling vortex of green energy, tensions between humans and robots ignite! The Cyberpink girls—a daring all-girl band with big dreams—are caught in the chaos when they’re kicked out of an audition for defending robot performers. Determined to move forward, they seek help from the unpredictable promoter Nicky Rat.

As divisions deepen, Stacyÿ navigates her struggling romance with a robot, Eva wrestles with her identity as the adopted daughter of one, and Infiniti uncovers a chilling warning tied to a mysterious star. But when a humans-vs-robots riot erupts during their performance, the band is caught in the crossfire. Now, they must escape and find a way to unite a fractured world before it’s too late.

“As someone who began singing in bands at 17, eventually playing music in LA, the music industry (with all its ups and downs and colorful characters) is near and dear to me,” said Lopez. “My goal is to create a male- and female-friendly sci-fi universe with style and substance—

“Ultimately I think Cyberpink is very much inspired by the Saturday morning cartoons I used to watch as a kid. The shows were sort of silly and two-dimensional by today’s standards, but they had a lot of heart, and sometimes you wished you could hang out with the characters afterward! They would become your friends—

“I also love more radical shows like Rick & Morty, but for this project, I liked the idea of creating something appealing to both kids and adults, like Star Wars or Harry Potter. There are ups and downs in those universes, but overall they leave you feeling good: like for all its flaws, the world is a fundamentally redeemable place—

Samuel Bermudez is an extremely talented and imaginative illustrator, and it’s always an absolute pleasure working with him. He does such an incredible job of bringing the girls to life, capturing the nuances of their personalities, and making funny moments even funnier.”

“My visual style is inspired by Japanese artists like Katsuhiro Ōtomo and Masamune Shirow, sparking my love for cyberpunk, and by Marvel artists like Sara Pichelli, Stuart Immonen, and Olivier Coipel, who captivated me during university,” added Bermudez. “Working with Pablo has opened my eyes to the fashion and music worlds, deeply enriching my perspective. Recently, I’ve channeled that inspiration into creating the characters of Cyberpink . My goal is to connect with audiences, hoping they see a piece of themselves in the stories, gestures, and interactions within each panel.”

“Issue #2 really kicks the story into high gear, as the girls navigate an increasingly dangerous situation,” Lopez told us. “Terrified of being exposed for the scandal back on Earth that sent them to the moon in the first place, they’re also discovering that there’s something decidedly wrong with this new music opportunity. This sequence captures exactly what I love about these characters — even as they’re in way over their heads, they’re still cracking jokes. As always, artist Samuel Bermudez really captures the essence of the different characters, making the jokes even funnier. He also really brought the James Bond vIllain’s-lair atmosphere of the record label’s secret facility to life.”
