Vampirella is doing some soul searching.
Per Dynamite, Vampirella #7 will begin a a new story arc called “Identitatem” as the title character wonders if she even has a soul. To recap: Vampi is — all at once — a woman, a vampire, an alien, and a near-identical clone of Lilith’s first daughter, Draculina. All of that makes the Daughter of Draculon question her personhood. Does she have rights and responsibilities or is she just a now-discarded construct?
To deal with the questions raised during “The Long Night”, Vampi takes refuge on Tortola in the British Virgin Islands, alongside The Saint from Vampirella: Year One. But the island getaway comes with a cost: “a powerful sentient artificial life form known as Aris, who is trying to revive the enigmatic Host, an alien life form to which Vampirella was briefly connected to in a past tale.” And as Aris makes its way through Vampirella’s mind, “her deepest insecurities are set against a dark mirror of Aris’ own confident acceptance of non-personhood.”
Writer Christopher Priest continues his epic saga with artist Davis Goetten joining him for the next chapter in Vampi’s search for understanding. Continuing through issue #11, “Identitatem” is the next major stop on Priest and Vampi’s journey to legacy issue #700.
The issue is supported by covers from Lucio Parrillo, Derrick Chew, Joseph Michael Linsner, Elias Chatzoudis, and cosplayer Rachel Hollon.
Vampirella #7 debuts this September from Dynamite.
