Trailer Watch: The New ‘Street Fighter’ Movie Looks Surprisingly Fun

I was initially very skeptical about the idea of a live-action Street Fighter film. The popular fighting game’s iconic characters are so over-the-top that they would adapt more organically into an anime film. However, the more I watched the trailer (above) the more I was won over.
Here’s the plot synopsis: “Set in 1993, estranged Street Fighters Ryu (Andrew Koji) and Ken Masters (Noah Centineo) are thrown back into combat when the mysterious Chun-Li (Callina Liang) recruits them for the next World Warrior Tournament.”
The 2026 Street Fighter film isn’t trying to hide its intrinsic absurdity behind Whedon-adjacent tongue-in-cheek comedy. Street Fighter commits to the ridiculousness and commits so hard that it becomes fun and awesome. I’m getting a similar tonality to RRR and I’m here for it! I’m also thrilled that Chun-Li and Cammy are unapologetically badass and hot. Overall, Street Fighter looks like it could be a blast to see in theaters on October 16th.
