McFarlane Toys Showcases Two New ‘Mortal Kombat Klassic’ Figures

Mortal Kombat hit arcades in 1992. The game quickly earning a place in schoolyard lore. It was full of ninjas, demigods, and the ability to punch a guy’s head clear off their pixelated body, followed by a fire hydrant’s worth of pixelated blood.
That original game spawned a massive franchise, including fighting games, comic books, card games, movies, a cartoon series that I watched religiously. It seemingly had little to do with the arcade games once I got a chance to play them, and a slew of other products over the last 30+ years, and has maintained its place among the most instantly recognizable games.
So it only makes sense that the creative minds over at McFarlane Toys are continuing to create really cool figures that capture the classic, or should I say Klassic, appeal of this franchise.
The two newest offerings are Invisible Reptile and Ice Clone Sub-Zero, both classic forms of characters who have been delighting fans for ages.
Reptile first appeared in the original Mortal Kombat in 1992 as a hidden opponent. This made him not only a memorable combatant, but also the first “secret character” in a fighting game. He has remained a mainstay of the franchise to this day. Reptile, as one of the Saurian species, has the ability to become invisible, and that is what this figure is capturing in pure 7″ scale form.
Sub-Zero is the only playable character to appear in every main installment of the series, along with the action-adventure spin-off Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero. I hold him as the main character of the franchise. Sub-Zero is a mantle that has changed hands a few times, but all characters who have worn it wield ice-related abilities.
One of those abilities, and the showcase of the McFarlane Toys figure we are talking about today, is his Ice Clone ability. This ability allows Sub-Zero to craft an ice version of itself almost instantly, which, most times, when struck by an opponent, freezes said opponent, making them vulnerable to all sorts of attacks.
