First Look: Alex Ross Takes Readers On An “In-verse”-Spaning Tour Via ‘Marvel Dimensions’

Alex Ross (Marvels, Kingdom Come, and Fantastic Four: Full Circle) is about to release a new original graphic novel: Marvel Dimensions. It will be published by Abrams ComicArts and feature “a mysterious, 32-page comic book that is quite literally stitched into the center of the book, along with the graphic novel’s story,” introducing readers to the In-Verse.

“Marvel Dimensions begins with dramatic, fully painted double-page origin spreads of Marvel’s most iconic characters that echo their earliest stories and iconic secret origins, with appearances from the Human Torch, Captain America, the Fantastic Four, the X-Men, Black Panther, Phoenix, Wolverine, Spider-Man, the Incredible Hulk, Iron Man, the Avengers, and many others. As the book’s narrator describes each moment with confidence, guiding the reader through these touchstones of Marvel’s history, the story builds, feeling somehow both classic and completely new. And then, 48 pages in, the reader is presented with a comic book inside a graphic novel.”

A graphic novel that, until now, has been shrouded in secrecy finally gets a sneak peek — albeit now it’s released — from the good folks at Abrams ComicArts.

 Ross elaborated on his idea behind this concept of including a comic within a graphic novel:

“Part of the joy of reading comics is when readers are genuinely surprised by the story on the page. And that sense of mystery, suspense, and surprise is something I’ve desperately wanted to preserve for Marvel Dimensions. Every detail of the story and the design of the book has been planned extensively. My hope is that readers enjoy the unique introduction to the In-Verse as they’re transported from one world to another.”

Marvel Dimensions is out now from Abram ComicArt, written and illustrated by Ross, with Josh Johnson and Jason Millet, and lettering by Ariana Maher.
