Magic: The Gathering Announces ‘Secret Lair’ X ‘Masters Of The Universe’ Superdrop

It’s no secret that Masters of the Universe is having an epic revival. There’s a new feature film, rad new action figures, and a new publishing arm to support books in their growing catalog. So it stands to reason that the always-on-trend Wizards of the Coast have partnered with Mattel to drop a Secret Lair x Masters of the Universe: The Most Powerful Superdrop in the Universe. The new collection of five limited Magic: The Gathering drops is inspired by the legendary heroes, villains, artifacts, and worlds of Masters of the Universe.

The Superdrop was first teased through select artwork during MagicCon: Amsterdam, giving us an early look at how Eternia and Etheria are coming to Magic. Across the five drops, The Most Powerful Superdrop in the Universe brings together He-Man, Skeletor, She-Ra, the forces of good and evil, and the unmistakable fantasy action of Masters of the Universe through all-new artwork inspired by the franchise’s classic packaging, animation, and larger-than-life characters.

“When Secret Lair had the opportunity to work with Mattel and Masters of the Universe, we knew there was a real responsibility to honor how much this world means to fans,” said Matthew Hodgins, Director of Secret Lair. “Mattel created something that generations of people have played with, collected, watched, and carried forward in their own imaginations. We were proud to help bring that history to Magic in a way that respects where it came from and gives fans something new to discover.”

Secret Lair x Masters of the Universe: By the Power of Grayskull! brings He-Man along with his friends and foes to Magic with artwork inspired by classic Masters of the Universe packaging. When evil gets ambitious, He-Man raises the Sword of Power, Orko makes the battle more magical, Man-At-Arms makes sure it stays winnable, and Castle Grayskull remains the kind of place everyone has strong opinions about controlling.

The drop includes 1 Winota, Joiner of Forces as “He-Man, Champion of Eternia”, 1 Crackle with Power, 1 Delina, Wild Mage as “Orko, Trollan Magician”, 1 Bruenor Battlehammer as “Man-At-Arms, Master Tactician”, and 1 Konda’s Banner as “He-Man’s Battle Harness”.

The Secret Lair x Masters of the Universe: Nyah-ha-ha! gives Skeletor the spotlight he so rightly deserves. Inspired by classic animation cels and illustrated by Secret Lair artist Tyler Walpole, this drop follows the Lord of Destruction, his Evil Warriors, and a plan so brilliant that any setbacks should be considered temporary, irrelevant, and definitely someone else’s fault.

The drop includes 1 Tinybones, the Pickpocket as “Skeletor, Lord of Destruction”, 1 Tasha’s Hideous Laughter as “Skeletor’s Villainous Glee”, 1 Bottomless Pit, 1 Necrogen Mists as “Evil Warriors’ Shroud”, and 1 Breach the Multiverse as “Rally the Evil Warriors”

Up next is the Secret Lair x Masters of the Universe: She-Ra, Princess of Power. This drop brings the Great Rebellion from Etheria to Magic. With She-Ra at the center, Bright Moon stands against the Horde with courage, resolve, and the kind of power that refuses to be commanded. Fans who collect the full Superdrop can also bring the drops together into a Masters of the Universe-themed Commander deck centered around She-Ra, Princess of Power.

This drop features 1 Sisay, Weatherlight Captain as “She-Ra, Princess of Power”, 1 Silence, 1 Emiel the Blessed as “Swift Wind, Steed of She-Ra”, 1 Hajar, Loyal Bodyguard as “Bow, Master Archer”, 1 Kutzil, Malamet Exemplar as “Catra, Force Captain”, and 1 Sol Ring.

The next drop is titled Secret Lair x Masters of the Universe: Allies and Enemies of Eternia. This drop celebrates the larger world of Eternia, where every hero, villain, sorceress, beast, actor, and heavily armed plan seems to arrive with a name, a purpose, and a strong visual identity. Some protect Castle Grayskull. Some lurk around Snake Mountain. All of them make the battlefield more interesting.

This set includes 1 Sakashima the Impostor as “Man-E-Faces, Actor of Eternia”, 1 Kona, Rescue Beastie as “Beast Man, Savage Henchman”, 1 Ertai Resurrected as “Evil-Lyn, Evil Warrior Goddess”, 1 Derevi, Empyrial Tactician as “The Sorceress, Heroic Guardian”, 1 Tetsuo, Imperial Champion as “Trap Jaw, Wizard of Weapons”

Last up is the Secret Lair x Masters of the Universe: Sold Separately drop. It gathers the essentials that no battle between good and evil should be without.

The drop includes 1 Fortune, Loyal Steed as “Battle Cat, Fighting Tiger”, 1 The Gitrog, Ravenous Ride as “Panthor, Savage Cat”, 1 Throne of the God-Pharaoh as “Bone Throne”, 1 Sword of War and Peace as “Sword of Power”, and 1 Command Tower.

All Secret Lair x Masters of the Universe drops will be available in non-foil editions for $29.99 and foil editions for $39.99 through Secret Lair’s online store while supplies last.

These special limited-quantity Secret Lair x Masters of the Universe drops will go on sale starting at 9 a.m. PT on September 14. Those who get lucky enough to score one will also receive an exclusive foil Swan Song for every $149 spent, while supplies last.
