Exclusive Cover Reveal — Pay Homage To Kevin Smith’s ‘Clerks’ With ‘Clean Up Crew’ Variant

Working retail sucks in more ways than one. Two clerks fight for their lives on minimum wage as they battle vampires overnight in writer (and former Comicon.com editor) James Ferguson’s new five-issue mini-series, Clean Up Crew, coming to Kickstarter on October 1st. The horror comic is illustrated by Samir Samao, colored by Colin Johnson, and lettered by Micah Myers. It also features logo and design work by Darren Vogt. 

When Miles and Roger are forced to stay late to help the overnight janitors get the store ready for a big visit from the district manager, they were not expecting to be fighting for their lives. The janitors have more than mops and buckets. They have fangs and they’re not afraid to use them. Can these two clerks use the items in the store to survive the night? Or will it be a bloody clean up in aisle 6?

“Clean Up Crew is an idea I’ve had for over 20 years. It hit me when I was working as an assistant manager at a drug store in college,” Ferguson said. “When I first started making comics, this is the story that I had to tell. It speaks to a specific time in one’s life, just after college when you’re about to enter the real world. Granted, most of us don’t have to go through a few vampires to get our first jobs after school.”

The Kickstarter campaign to fund the comic’s release will run for thirty days. It’s part of Witchstarter, Kickstarter’s curated collection of spooky projects that run through October. Rewards include digital and print copies of the comic itself as well as James’ back catalog of other titles. 

Backers can pledge for a variety of covers including one by series artists Samao and Johnson, a movie poster homage cover by Roberto Duque paying tribute to Kevin Smith‘s Clerks, a sketch cover designed by Vogt, and a special foil embossed cover by Joe Mulvey. A virgin version of Mulvey’s cover, without cover dress or logo, will be available as a limited metal cover exclusively through this Kickstarter campaign, never to be reprinted. Original artwork from the comic’s production will be available as additional rewards too.
