‘Magic: The Gathering X Star Trek’ Brings A Fleet Of Cards To The Table

by Anton Kromoff

Welcome to the table,

Space… the final frontier… these are the voyages of the Starship Enterprise.

It’s impossible for me to hear the word “space” at the start of a statement without the intro to a Star Trek show playing in my head. I grew up enjoying The Original Series and The Next Generation in syndication, and Deep Space Nine, Voyager, and the other series as they aired. I was lucky enough to be a recurring crew member on a long-running Star Trek podcast. I have loved the movies, comics, and novels, and am currently in an ongoing meme-share with my pal Ken, who happens to be the only person up at 3 am thanks to his very mission-critical job.

For those long-time readers, I mentioned Ken back in 2025 after seeing the preview of the Magic: The Gathering X Star Trek cards from MagicCon: Atlanta 2025 when we were first seeing the set, as he and I were freaking out with how stoked we were over the prospect of this set. So you can rest assured that when the embargo is lifted right… now, I will be sharing a link to this feature with him because … strap in, friends, we have so much to talk about!

Before we even get into it … Look at the flavor text of the card above! Look at that card art! This card goes so hard it could be a wall-sized poster in a college dorm room, and no one would disrespect it.

And the team at Magic: The Gathering knows a lot about how to respect a thing of legacy and beauty, as is totally evident in the way they are celebrating the 60-year legacy of Star Trek. This set has nearly every incarnation of Star Trek represented across not only the core cards but a slew of variants that are going to be chased by collectors across the galaxy.

Signed Headliner Cards from Star Trek Actors

The actors of Star Trek are absolute icons, and it’s nearly impossible to separate them from the franchise, as the majority of the main cast has crafted a legacy with their acting skills and memorable moments.

MTG gets this and, with that in mind, has crafted signed headliner cards that capture the characters’ likenesses along with actual signatures of the cast members. Each card is printed and then physically signed by one of the iconic actors before randomly being inserted into a Collector Booster pack.

As someone who loves opening packs of cards just to discover what is within, I can’t imagine the feeling this is going to conjure for the people who find signed cards in their packs. I will cry if I get one of these. I know what kind of constitution I have, and I know how much Magic: The Gathering and Star Trek mean to me, so the thought of getting a signed MTG card is overwhelmingly epic.

Each one of these signed cards is a piece of history and feels like an artifact waiting to be found. With fewer than 250 copies of each signed card, it feels like an impossible thing to find, but at the same time I have seen some truly amazing pulls in my day, and these are the kind of things that make lifelong memories for the person pulling the card.

Library Computer Access and Retrieval System (LCARS) Shock Lands

Exploring strange new worlds is fundamental to Star Trek. With that in mind, these new LCARS Shock Lands are some of the coolest themed lands I have seen.

There are 10 different lands with this special treatment that emulates the Enterprise‘s on-board Library Computer system, each with brilliant artwork showcasing some of the planets experienced through the history of Star Trek by the various crews on their voyages.

There are 7 uncommon, 14 rare, and 8 mythic rare LCARS frame cards and 10 rare LCARS shock lands. Non-foil and traditional foil LCARS Shock Lands are set to be in the Play Boosters and Collector Boosters, with the Surge foil versions of these cards appearing only in Collector Boosters. So those trying to collect them all should keep that in mind as you are pre-ordering and hitting your LGS for packs.

Stardates Cards

Really sought-after MTG reprints are getting a Star Trek treatment with these borderless Stardate Cards.

MTG took instantly recognizable cards from throughout Magic‘s history and reimagined them within Star Trek‘s universe in really fun ways. Take “Kenrith, the Returned King,” who is known here as “General Picard, Earth Warlord.”

There are 30 stardates cards in Magic: The Gathering X Star Trek. Non-foil stardates cards appear in Play Boosters and Collector Boosters. Traditional foil stardates cards appear only in Collector Boosters, but I think the mere fact that we are getting foils of these is going to make at least some of my friends at Tower of Games very happy. And those are good people and deserve to enjoy getting excited about things. That’s part of the joy of this hobby in the first place, and the crew at the Western Branch location goes above and beyond to make sure everyone is having a good time at the table, so I want good things for them.

Beam Me Up Bundles

I’m so stoked about these “Beam Me Up Bundles.” Each Beam Me Up Bundle includes 8 Play Boosters, a Collector Booster, and 2 of 8 traditional foil Beam Me Up Bundle promo cards.

For these Beam Me Up Bundle promo cards, MTG took 8 of the already rad Spacecraft cards from Magic: The Gathering X Star Trek set and gave them this wicked treatment that looks like a schematic from Starfleet’s records.

I don’t know how you look at these and not just lose it with excitement. These are some of the coolest styled treatments I have seen on these kinds of cards. I am sure they are going to be chased by collectors everywhere looking to round out their Trek or MTG collections.

Klingon Frame and Klingon Script Cards

I love Gowron. Hell, I have been a fan of Klingons for as long as I can remember, so seeing the Klingon frame treatments on MTG cards brings me so much joy. The Klingon frame combines the rugged, battle-ready aesthetic of the Klingon Empire with a collection of flavorful cards from the Magic: The Gathering X Star Trek set.

Worf is here, along with a handful of other cards that really work in this card styling. There is 1 common, 6 uncommon, and 3 rare Klingon frame cards that appear in non-foil and traditional foil.

There are also Klingon script cards presented in glorious Klingon, as MTG, much like Shakespeare, was intended to be presented. (For those of you who got that, you are welcome.)

Klingon frame cards appear in non-foil and traditional foil in Play Boosters and Collector Boosters. Klingon script versions of Klingon frame cards appear only in Collector Boosters and only in traditional foil. Klingon script cards can appear in Collector Boosters of any language, but the card will always be in Klingon.

Classic Enterprise Cards

The most vibey cards from this set so far are the “Classic Enterprise Cards.” These cards pay homage to the vintage Star Trek posters that adorned the walls of movie theaters, door rooms, and comic shops across the world.

The art on these cards has a really painterly, highly textured style and a special frame that will hearken back to the early era of Star Trek: The Original Series.

There are 5 uncommon, 13 rare, and 6 mythic rare Classic Enterprise cards. Non-foil and traditional foil Classic Enterprise cards appear in Play Boosters and Collector Boosters. Surge foil Classic Enterprise cards appear only in Collector Boosters.

Until next time, there is so much more to share, but for now, boldly go to your Local Gaming Shop and pre-order your bundles, boosters, and collector packs so you can be ready to hit the table when these all launch on November 13th, 2026.
