Just The Specials: Burger King ‘Hello Kitty And Friends’ King Jr. Kids’ Meal

by Anton Kromoff

Welcome to the table,

Just the Specials is where your old pal Anton sits down with all the new, weird, and often wild menu items, food offerings, and branded collaborations that find their way onto the plate in front of him. Today, we are tucking in to the Burger King Hello Kitty and Friends King Jr. Kids’ Meal.

There is still some debate on whether Hello Kitty is a cat or a little girl or some kind of hybrid of the two, and I am not about to get into the middle of that. I value my life and fear that fandoms’ rage more than just about anything else on this planet. I’m sure whatever Hello Kitty is, they are very nice and worthy of your kindness and friendship. What I am here to talk about today is the collaboration between Hello Kitty and Burger King.

Editor’s note: According to Sanrio in 2024, Hello Kitty is not a cat, but a little girl named Kitty White who lives in London, weighs three apples, and is five apples tall. -BA

The Hello Kitty and Friends King Jr. Kids Meal is a fun new limited-time offering for those who are eating at Burger King. The meal itself comes with a choice of four-or-six-piece chicken nuggets, hamburger or cheeseburger, plus fries or applesauce, and a drink. All of this is packed up in a Hello Kitty and Friends-themed meal bag.

It’s really cool that a themed paper Burger King kids’ crown is included in the bag. Normally you have to eat in-store for that bit, but this was included inside the bag, not constructed, so it could be enjoyed as part of the meal festivities.

It’s a goofy little touch, but honestly really speaks volumes to how far a little extra effort goes. I know for sure next time Burger King does something like this, they are getting my money. All it took was a silly paper crown to feel considered.

The toy surprise for this meal is a blind bag containing one of six Hello Kitty and Friends figures.

“We’re excited to deliver another fun and engaging King Jr. Meal — this time with the one and only Hello Kitty!” said Joel Yashinsky, Chief Marketing Officer, Burger King US&C. “To celebrate our partnership, a limited number of golden Hello Kitty toys will be included in our six-toy lineup. We look forward to our Guests enjoying the Hello Kitty King Jr. Meal along with our limited-time Hello Kitty Burger King Crown. It’s going to be fun for kids of all ages at BK!”

I’m not at all disappointed that I pulled Hello Kitty herself with a little burger and a Burger King crown.

“We love seeing Hello Kitty and Friends get the royal treatment at Burger King, with each character sporting their own iconic BK crown,” said Jill Koch, Chief Brand Officer, Sanrio, Inc. “Bringing these beloved characters into the King Jr. Kids’ Meal in such a playful way creates something special for fans of all ages to enjoy.”

Until next time, it’s getting to the point these days that Burger King seems to be the only fast casual chain that remains consistently good. The nuggets were on point. They forgot the fries, but that was okay; I did not need them to tell you about Hello Kitty. The tiny Sprite was bubbly. The Whopper I got because six nuggets are hardly a meal, honestly, is one of the best fast-food burgers you can find out there right now.

I don’t do a ton of fast food if I can help it because the quality has dropped and the prices have risen so so much, but for some reason, and this is in no way sponsored, Burger King remains consistently a good time.
