A Cub Reporter Tracks A Potential Killer In Bury The Lede First Look
by James Ferguson
Boom! Studios has revealed an early preview of Bury the Lede, the upcoming original graphic novel from writer Gaby Dunn, artist Claire Roe, and colorist Miquel Rodriguez. Based on Dunn’s own experiences as a young reporter at The Boston Globe, the comic takes us on a search for truth down a dark path and face-to-face with a potential killer.
Bury the Lede follows cub reporter Madison Jackson as she sets out to prove that she deserves her coveted college internship at the premier newspaper in town, The Boston Lede. She dreams of career-making headlines and she may have just stumbled upon one. When her police scanner leads her to a brutal murder tied to a prominent Boston family, Madison rushes to the crime scene. It’s there she meets Dahlia Kennedy, a celebrity socialite covered in blood and the prime suspect in the murder of her husband and child. Madison is the only person Dahlia will speak to, so everything rides on her untested shoulders, bringing her deeper and deeper into the dark, twisted landscape of the city’s hidden circles of crime, corruption, and privilege.
Dafna Pleban, Senior Editor, Boom! Studios says:
Bury the Lede is an incisive and insightful psychological thriller where the relationship between the two female protagonists–a journalist and a murder suspect–is fraught with lies and complicated truths from the very beginning. Gaby’s writing, based on her own experiences as a cub reporter, along with Claire and Miquel’s moody noir art are the perfect elements for a story that delves into the importance of truth versus performance in the world around us.
Bury the Lede is set for release on October 2nd, 2019 at your local comic shop and on October 8th, 2019 at bookstores and Amazon. From the sounds of things, this is a nice complement to Criminal and that is definitely not a bad thing.
