New Game Rules In The Latest In Yu-Gi-Oh! Series, “Yu-Gi-Oh! Sevens”

Konami took advantage of Jump Festa to announce the existence of the seventh major Yu-Gi-Oh series: Yu-Gi-Oh! Sevens. This time around the director will be Nobuhiro Kondo (Cardfight!! Vanguard GZ), while the series composition will be done by Toshimitsu Takeuchi (Battle Sprits).
If the art looks aged down, that’s because these characters are all in middle school. The lead character is Odou Yuga, who loves to invent … but likes to duel a bit more. He’s come to dislike all the strict rules in Yu-Gi-Oh! and has created an entirely new version of the game in “Rush Duels,” which seems to streamline much of the things people didn’t like about the game in favor of making it faster.
Surprisingly, Yu-Gi-Oh! Sevens seems like it’s the first Yu-Gi-Oh! show in some time made specifically to cater to children. The main character is literally calling all the rules of the game dumb — completely understandable for people who’ve spent the last three years playing under LINK rules. Everything we’ve seen about the “Rush Duel” format indicates those duels shouldn’t last very long at all, with each player having unlimited Normal Summons (the main game limits you to one per turn) and allowing players to draw until they have five cards in hand every turn. This simplified setup should allow new players to play easily.
Currently there’s no information about a new summoning type, which every Yu-Gi-Oh series has had since the 5D’s over a decade ago. However, since this series created an entirely new format to play in, perhaps Konami has changed enough for it?
Yu-Gi-Oh! Sevens starts in the Spring anime season.
