Something For The Weekend: Our Pick Of The Posts

Welcome to the weekend and welcome to an all-new look for our weekly Something for the Weekend columns as we move away from simply reporting on some of the more popular posts to choosing and championing some of our favourite posts from across the past week. And we start with our EiC Erik Amaya’s choices, followed by both mine and fellow senior Editor, Brendan Allen. Posts we feel deserve another moment in the spotlight for whatever reason. Posts we hope you enjoy as part of your Saturday schedule.

This week Erik Amaya chose the following for your consideration:

1. Rachel Bellwoar, our number one staff writer for bagging some of the best interviews around, spoke with writer Zac Thompson about his new Dark Horse comic book series, The Unbeing here.
2. Our toughest reviewer, Benjamin Hall, took a look at Image Comics’ Bear Pirate Viking Queen #1, and thoroughly enjoyed it. Read his review here.
3. Erik also chose Scott Redmond’s review of The Cull collected edition, also from Image Comics, here.
4. And his final pick is another review, this time for Netflix’s The Antisocial Network: Memes To Mayhem by Tito W. James, which can be read here.

As for me, I’m putting forward the following three:

1. Richard Bruton’s The Art of Politics. It’s a monthly column that rounds up the best of political cartoons from both sides of the pond and you juts have to read it to se the amount of time, effort and dedication he puts into this one. Much like all his other posts. Check out his April round up here.
2. I’m a self confessed fan of writer John Layman (Chew) – and I still think he was robbed by not being able to complete his supernatural sci-fi saga, Outer Darkness –  so I’m really looking forward to his irreverent take on the Spawn Universe in Image Comics’ forthcoming Spawn Kills Ever Spawn #1. Check out a preview here.
3. As for one of my favourite reviews, I have to fly the flag for UK comics and go with Richard Bruton’s review of 2000 AD/Rebellion’s Lowborn High Vol. 1 here. And, as an added bonus, you could always read Rachel Bellwoar’s interview with the creators, David Barnett and Anna Morozova here.

Finally we have Brendan M Allen, who goes to bat for the following three:

1. I have often said that we have a good variety of interviews in any given week here at Comicon.com, and to prove that point, Brendan has chosen Scott Redmond’s interview with Sophie Campbell, discussing the final issue of IDW’s current run of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles ahead of its reboot here.
2. Role-play and gaming expert, Anton Kromoff, gave us due warning of Heroes & Villains FCBD 2024 limited edition t-shirt drops for four exclusive  Star Wars: The Phantom Menace here.
3. Plus, Brendan looked at Fanhome’s ‘E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial’ Build-Up Kit Stages 6-8 here.
