AAW Games Announces ‘Adventure Arcs’ And A New TTRPG Magazine

by Anton Kromoff

Welcome to the table,

Dragon magazine and Dungeon magazine are, to this day, two of my favorite publications. I dare say, even as someone who manages a magazine that focuses on TTRPG and Sword & Sorcery, I still look to Dragon and Dungeon as the architectural foundations for a lot of my creative endeavors. Another magazine that aligns with AAW Games’ new Adventure Arc system has popped up on my radar recently.

The Adventure Arc is striving to provide Storytellers with a comprehensive toolkit of modular components compatible with D&D 5e in an effort to allow seamless integration into their ongoing campaigns or stand-alone play.

From what I gather Adventure Arc is said to be a collection of uniquely designed “building blocks”—such as monsters, settings, dungeons, items, and quests combined to create a cohesive narrative.

These “building blocks” are color-coded to be easy to recognize. The codes go as follows.

• Surprise (Pink): Exclusive ready-to-play pre-generated characters for your players, audio soundtracks, new monsters, and more surprises.

• Setting (Yellow): Detailed content including regional history and settlements.

• Mini-Dungeon (Red): A short adventure that ties into the overarching story or
serves as a one-shot.

• Tactical (Brown): Unique character backgrounds, magic items, spells, and
equipment tailored to entice your players into deeper gameplay.

• Wilderness (Green): Survival rules, terrains, hazards, and camping essentials.

• Trek (Purple): Side-quests featuring dangerous and fantastic locales.

• Faction (Orange): Weave new organizations, cults, and factions into your
campaign.

• Saga (Blue): Adventures that facilitate the advancement of the Adventure Arc.

It sounds like these are drop-in adventure seeds, items, and monsters that are outside of the typical lore and IP of D&D, adding AAW Games’ own creative touches to the table, while still using the rules and systems created by the designers at Dungeons & Dragons.

In addition to this new collection of content, AAW is planning to publish a quarterly 88-page magazine that will contain unique gaming content and ship worldwide. They will be crowdfunding this on BackerKit starting mid-October 2024.

Until next time, I will keep an eye out on how this develops. The promotional art has me on the fence, but the concept is strong and I really do love gaming magazines so this could be an easy sell for me if the narrative content comes out strong.
