Wizards Of The Coast Announces ‘Magic: The Gathering Secret Lair X Star Trek: Set Phasers To Superdrop’
by Anton Kromoff
Welcome to the table,
Wizards of the Coast is already “Boldly Going” into Strange New Worlds with their upcoming Star Trek collaboration set. On the heels of the most recent announcement showcasing some of the upcoming cards for this set, we have just received word that a new Secret Lair x Star Trek: Set Phasers to Superdrop is coming!
Arriving November 9th (with a sixth drop to be revealed later), this Superdrop explores the many sides of Star Trek, from transporter rescues to Klingon cards, Star Trek: Lower Decks chaos, new worlds that inspire basic lands, and a special Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan drop that knows exactly how many A’s belong in the title.
Secret Lair x Star Trek Set Phasers to Superdrop: Beam Me Up
The Secret Lair x Star Trek Set Phasers to Superdrop: Beam Me Up puts you square in the transporter bay like Miles O’Brien himself. These cards not only show crew beaming up and down, but they do so with a special reversible card treatment that mirrors Star Trek‘s transporter effects.
The Secret Lair x Star Trek Set Phasers to Superdrop: Beam Me Up drop will include one Eerie Interlude as “Beam Us Up” (Reversible), one Momentary Blink (Reversible), one Essence Flux as “Materialize” (Reversible), and one Conjurer’s Closet as “The Transporter” (Reversible).
Secret Lair x Star Trek Set Phasers to Superdrop: New Worlds
For land lovers like myself, the Secret Lair x Star Trek Set Phasers to Superdrop: New Worlds takes players beyond the final frontier, transforming basic lands into beautiful planets that would dazzle even the most experienced away team before eating at least one person in a red uniform.
The Secret Lair x Star Trek Set Phasers to Superdrop: New Worlds comes with two Plains, two Islands, two Swamps, two Mountains, and two Forests.
Normally, the Swamp is my favorite, but looking at all of these together, this drop is really top-top work from the artists working over at Wizards of the Coast on this project.
Secret Lair x Star Trek Set Phasers to Superdrop: KHAAAAAAAAN
With the Secret Lair x Star Trek Set Phasers to Superdrop: KHAAAAAAAAN, we get a drop that pays homage to superhuman space-tyrant Khan Noonien Singh. This drop showcases scenes and moments straight from the iconic film Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan.
The Secret Lair x Star Trek Set Phasers to Superdrop: KHAAAAAAAAN comes with one Wrath of the Skies as “Best Served Cold”, one Commandeer, one Illusionist’s Gambit as “Reliant’s Betrayal”, one Buried Alive, one Genesis Wave, and one Fracture.
Secret Lair x Star Trek Set Phasers to Superdrop: Lower Decks
The Secret Lair x Star Trek Set Phasers to Superdrop: Lower Decks shows that even one of Starfleet’s least important ships, the U.S.S. Cerritos, deserves its own MTG drop.
With four legendary creature cards paying tribute to characters, Mariner, Rutherford, Boimler, Tendi and a legendary artifact card which brings the trusty Cerritos itself to life.
The exact contents of this drop include one Inti, Seneschal of the Sun as “Mariner, Breaching Protocol”, one Kambal, Profiteering Mayor as “Boimler, Citing Protocol”, one Silas Renn, Seeker Adept as “Rutherford, Rebuilding the Past”, one Thrasios, Triton Hero as “Tendi, Exploring the Future”, and one Weatherlight as “U.S.S. Cerritos, California-Class.”
Secret Lair x Star Trek Set Phasers to Superdrop: tlhIngan maH
Now for my favorite of these drops. The SecretLair x Star Trek Set Phasers to Superdrop: tlhIngan maH. This drop proves that everything is better in Klingon!
Five cards in this drop pay tribute to one of Star Trek’s most iconic species and their commanding tones. For those who haven’t yet mastered the dialect, the cards can be flipped to reveal the English translation. An addition that frankly feels beyond epic.
The Secret Lair x Star Trek Set Phasers to Superdrop: tlhIngan maH comes with one Demand Answers (Reversible), one Relentless Assault (Reversible), one Seething Song (Reversible), one War’s Toll (Reversible), and one Warstorm Surge (Reversible).
All of these Secret Lair x Star Trek drops will be available in Foil and Non-Foil ($29.99) while supplies last, with the Secret Lair x Star Trek: Set Phasers to Superdrop going on sale November 9th starting at 9 am PT.
As an added bonus, players will receive one one foil Return of the Wildspeaker as “Transporter Boondoggle” for every $199 spent while supplies last. Terms and conditions may apply.
Until next time, I would collect a full run of these Trek cards if they were in Klingon.
