Illuminous Sponsors Ray-Anthony Height’s Inaugural Compton Comics Expo
by Brendan M. Allen
Joseph Illidge’s IP and creative services company, Luminous, has announced its sponsorship of the inaugural Compton Comics Expo. Founded by industry veteran Ray-Anthony Height, it takes place Saturday, October 24th. Compton College, at 1111 E. Artesia Boulevard in Compton, CA, hosts the event, bringing comics, creators, and fans together for a celebration rooted in the city’s own creative community.
Compton has always had a story to tell. The Inaugural Compton Comics Expo is where that story comes to life. For the very first time, a comics convention comes home to one of Los Angeles’s most culturally rich and creatively powerful cities. Born from a community of creators who wanted a convention they could call their own, the Compton Comics Expo brings world-class comic arts and culture to the city, welcoming anyone who loves comics, cosplay, and great storytelling. The event is presented by Studio Skye Tiger in conjunction with the Compton 125 Historical Society.
Through its sponsorship, Illuminous supports the Black comics community and beyond, helping Compton Comics Expo establish a gathering place for creators and fans. That commitment carries through Illidge’s work with the company: developing original stories and creating opportunities for the people behind them.
“Most of the world has finally caught up to the coolness and influence of comic books, but it was always within the secret lifeblood of cities like Compton,” said Illidge. “The birth of Compton Comics Expo under the leadership of Ray-Anthony Height, one of the industry’s best ambassadors, is something that compelled me to provide meaningful support through my company, Illuminous. It’s going to be great 10, 15 years from now to see the next generation’s comic book creators whose origin stories will be connected to this year’s first Compton Comics Expo!”
Compton Comics Expo runs 11am PT- 5pm PT with free general admission and VIP early access beginning at 10am. Attendees can explore Artist Alley, meet creators, and take part in panels and cosplay programming. Local and national businesses can join Illuminous in supporting the inaugural Compton Comics Expo.
